A Return to Rhythm

A few months ago, I never imagined just how dramatically life could shift. One moment, I was comfortably settled in my weekly blogging routine; the next, I found myself navigating a whirlwind of challenges. These months pulled me away from the familiar comfort of writing, but as I sit here now, fingers poised over the keyboard, I feel a renewed sense of purpose. It’s time to reconnect—with myself, with my words, and with you, dear reader.
Every journey starts somewhere. Mine began with an unexpected opportunity: diving into the world of strategic foresight—the practice of systematically anticipating and preparing for future uncertainties to make informed decisions today. It was labeled a "stretch assignment," but "stretch" hardly captured the reality. This new venture demanded more than I'd ever imagined giving, pushing me far beyond my comfort zone. Yet, the growth was undeniable. I embraced the challenge, even though it meant stepping away from writing to explore the many possible futures ahead.
Just as I began finding my foresight feet, life shifted again—this time physically. A sudden move to a new home threw my daily rhythm into disarray. The chaos of packing, unpacking, and establishing new routines within a short span of time tested my patience. Yet, amid the turbulence emerged unexpected moments of grace: journaling to glorious sunrises from my new deck, discovering an abundance of bird life, and slowly feeling the serenity of a space becoming home.
Then came perhaps the most personal shift—I started seeing a therapist. For years, I convinced myself journaling alone was sufficient. But life's complexities eventually nudged me toward therapy—a safe haven to untangle my thoughts and emotions. It provided clarity about recurring tensions, like pressures at work or arguments with my wife over seemingly small things. Therapy has become a sanctuary, helping me navigate this unpredictable world with steadier footing. If you've ever considered it, I can assure you—it’s worth it.
Finally, as the dust settled, something stirred within me—the quiet but persistent call to write again. The hiatus, though necessary, left a void. I missed the clarity, connection, and illumination writing brings. And so, here I am, rebooting my blog, reaching out to you once more.
These months reminded me of life's fleeting, turbulent, yet beautiful nature. Challenges inevitably arise—just look at what's happening in the world around us—but they also hold invaluable lessons. If we choose, we can cultivate resilience, embrace change, and uncover beauty even in uncertainty.
I invite you again to join me, dear reader. Let's explore life's intricacies, the lessons that shape us, and the stories binding us together. For me, writing isn't merely to share my experiences; it's creating dialogue and a space for reflection.
Now, it's your turn: Reflect on your journey this past year. What changes shaped you most? What did you discover about yourself? Life is a tapestry woven from experiences, each thread adding depth and meaning. Let's honour these stories, learn from them, and evolve together.
Until next week,
Ric
