Live Intentionally
I used to be an avid video gamer, spending hours glued to my screen, completing quests, defeating monsters, and acquiring gold. Getting transported to alternate worlds and controlling the story's hero was fun. However, today, I have stopped playing video games altogether. Although I still love gaming, I find it hard to justify the time spent on them.
In the past year, I have only played a couple of games, including a point-and-click sci-fi adventure called "Whispers of a Machine" and "Diablo Immortal" the mobile version of my all-time favourite role-playing game. After a few short sessions, I stopped playing these games as they did not align with the priorities I set for myself.
I am a minimalist, and minimalism is not just about having fewer possessions. It's about living intentionally, focusing on things that matter and that bring us fulfilment and peace. I have reduced my wardrobe, which has not only allowed me to spend less time and mental energy deciding what to wear but also helps to reduce my contribution to the planet's destruction. Besides, I rarely spend any money on clothes, which means more money for books!
Living life intentionally requires us to scrutinize all aspects of our lives, including our possessions, environment, relationships, and how we spend our time. By simplifying our to-do lists, we can create more time and space for meaningful activities, such as writing, reading, and spending time with family.
As Francine Jay once said, "What is minimalism then? It's living lightly and gracefully on the earth – it's uncovering who you are."
Our time is limited. We should live intentionally.
Until next week,
Ric.
