There is Power in Stillness

When was the last time you experienced true stillness?
I'm not referring to merely standing still in a long queue or sitting motionless while engrossed in a book. I'm talking about observing, noticing, and truly seeing things as they are rather than what we perceive them to be. Listening attentively to what someone is saying rather than to the voice in our head that's already crafting a response.
Our thoughts can be loud and distracting. Quieting them allows us to fully experience the sacredness of the present moment. For instance, as I write this, I take a few seconds to close my eyes and feel the gentle touch of a cool breeze drifting in through the open door. I listen to the calming splash of the fountain and the melodic songs of the early morning birds.
There is profound power in stillness. With each passing day, I remind myself of the finite nature of my existence. This understanding, in turn, encourages me to fully appreciate each moment: every colour, scent and emotion, relishing in this magnificent journey we get to experience.
I invite you, dear reader, to enjoy a moment of stillness after reading this article. Just close your eyes and listen. Truly listen to the world around you. Refrain from judgment, and don't be too harsh on yourself when your mind inevitably wanders. Come back to listening as often as you need to.
And then, go off and enjoy the rest of your day.
Until next week,
Ric
